I've been feeling worse and worse lately, so I haven't done much of anything the past few months. I went to two festivals this past weekend and I was in huge pain and my muscles were going into spasms for a few days afterward. I'm going to see the doctor tomorrow, so hopefully I can get something for the pain so I can start doing at least a little bit of what I used to be able to do again.

I've been updating this wiki, but it's been a while since I've blogged here. In January, I started the January Animation Month monthly challenge and I made 31 animations during the month of January. On February 1st, I joined the February Album Writing Month and made my first song and a short cartoon music video out of my JAM animations: Slipping Serenity.

My sister had her baby shower in March and I dusted off my cake baking skills and made her some cupcakes with candy pacifiers on top. She had her baby boy on March 29th.

Yesterday I won a contest from Adventure Gamers for one of Telltale's episodic games, a raunchy game called Hector: We Negotiate With Terrorists. It's actually by an animation studio called Straandlooper, but Telltale ported it to the PC. It's quite unlike the games I usually like, but I did end up enjoying it after all.

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, and I feel terrible. That's all I'm devoting to that, as I'd rather concentrate on better things. We moved, so I'm not even half as stressed out as I once was.

I was looking for information about Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, since I'm a huge Disney fan (as I'm sure is obvious by my first short cartoon ;)) and I'm looking forward to Epic Mickey. I found out Oswald was actually in a game once. Due to his previous owners being Paramount, he had a cameo in Férias Frustradas do Pica-Pau (Woody Woodpecker's Frustrated Vacations), a Sega Mega Drive (Genesis) and Master System game released only in Brazil. I played through it, and translated it as I went along, since in hard mode it's not a straight-forward platformer and in one puzzle, it's easier if you understand the text to find the solution. I was planning on translating the whole game, but the graphics are compressed and I don't want to release a half-translation. The graphics compression is above my skill level, but I might inquire for advice at a later time, and finish translating the game.

It turns out the problem with my connection wasn't in my laptop at all, but was in the router. I unplugged it and plugged it back in, and everything works again! I'm a bit embarrassed that the fix was so simple, but at least I'll know what to do if it happens again.

Computers can be a real hassle sometimes. Target had a sale on Acer laptops for $199. So, we got one. It worked fine for a few days, and then it just conked out on me. The router would detect fine, but it would report that it was an unknown network with no internet (despite the fact that the name was displayed). It turns out Windows 7 gets confused with the switch that some routers have to connect to multiple computers and tries to connect to them. So, I had to set the default gateway manually. It took me quite a few hours and multiple websites and attempts to fix it before I finally found this bit of info. Hopefully it will stay fixed now.

Listening to: Mariah Carey: Honey

Since I posted last month, a lot has happened. I finally figured out what was wrong with me (after 11 hours in the emergency room!). I had a really bad sinus infection. I'm feeling a lot better now.

I took my cake lessons my sister bought me for my birthday. Despite feeling horrible in each class due to my sickness (and missing one since it fell on the day I was in the ER forever), it was a lot of fun. So I created three creative, beautiful cakes (well two cakes and two cupcakes! :)) last month.

I joined iFreelance, so hopefully I'll be doing some freelance art work soon (if my bids are accepted). There was one that I'd love to do that is more than I ever did before, so I wouldn't know what to bid. My mom suggested I try a 20 minute cartoon to see how long it takes me so I can put a bid in. So, I'm now creating a television pilot. I always wanted to create a television show, so this is one step in that direction. :)

I've started a webcomic. It's semi-daily (it was daily up until May 1. I haven't updated it since, but I haven't forgotten it). I'm especially proud of the 10th issue. It's flash instead of a plain PNG because it's a surprise animation. I think that's the first of it's kind for webcomics. It's amazing how much freedom the internet gives you with stuff like this that you couldn't even imagine doing in print. :)

I'm still working intermittently on my adventure game. I decided on the engine I want to use for it, and I'm learning the scripting language for it.

I am going to move the files over from our old computer to our new one, so my book will be moving over. I really want to continue writing it. My plan is to finish it by November so I can write another book (maybe the sequel) for this year's National Novel Writing Month.

Listening to: The fan blowing

I've had a terrible migraine headache with sweating and aches since Wednesday and it won't go away. The doctor put me on three different kinds of headache medicines, so hopefully they'll help.

I haven't done too much because when my headache hurts a lot the bright light from the monitor makes it worse. But I did start redoing my Telltale Halloween animation. I wasn't very happy with it, since it was a step back in quality from my first short cartoon, so I pulled it from YouTube. But now, I'm really putting a lot of effort into it. There's going to be a lot of action going on in every scene, since it's a party, so it's my most complicated animation yet. It will take a while, but I hope to have it done by the summer so I can start on this year's Halloween animation for the Telltale Halloween contest.

Oops. I was a year behind myself. I just noticed by January posts said 2009. It's always so hard to keep up with the new year in the first month.

I'm now a published writer. smiley.gif No, not for my book. I haven't finished that yet. But, I'm adding to it again now. I'm writing short pieces for Associated Content. It's interesting seeing what they accept and what they don't. (They accept just about everything actually, but a few didn't get up-front payment). It will be good to keep my writing skills sharp, and possibly they may even improve.

Mood: mrgreen.gif Excited!

I want to write and compose 14 songs in February for the February Album Writing Month challenge. I only need to write the songs to win, but I'm hoping that I can fully write, compose, perform, and sing at least 7 of those songs by the end of the month.

I'm figuring out how to do more stuff on this blog now. I can now embed flash videos that are hosted on this site, which is fun so I'll be sure to do that when I post my videos here from now on.

I decided to make my start up logo for my game reference my first ever completed animation project. It wasn't just a matter of coloring what I already had. I had to redo everything, since the game is in 640x480 resolution in the Sludge adventure game engine and the original video was 320x240.

January 27, 2010 - Busy Month So Far! Post a Comment
Mood: mrgreen.gif Excited!

This year I want to get a large chunk of my life list done. I've been celebrating a different holiday every day this year so far, trying something new every day (most of the holidays alone are something new, which I included on my list on some days, but I'm also trying to try new things besides the holidays), posting a different picture having to do with each day's holiday, which is my Project365 project, and I'm posting them up on ShutterCal, so that's my year of ShutterCal goal. Whew!

On top of that, I'm trying to improve my cooking skills and try new foods with the world cookbooks my sister got me for my birthday, and I'm slowly but surely pecking away at my episodic game idea I talked about. I haven't written any more of my novel yet this year, but I want to get that done before 2011 comes around as well.

We got a new computer! So, I can actually finish the Telltale Games I haven't played yet. smiley.gif

I didn't make it on NaNoWriMo, but I did get a nice chunk of my novel done that I never would have done before, so it definitely was worth it. I'm going to keep at writing the novel this month, then I'm going to start the video game I talked about earlier.

November 23, 2009 - Even More Contests Like NaNoWriMo! Post a Comment
Mood: smiley.gif happy
NaNo Word Count: 10,640
Here's some more contests that sound like fun that I might do one year:

February: Thing-A-Day - Do some sort of art every day (a craft, a drawing, a photo, etc)
February: Knitting Olympics - complete a knitting project during the Winter Olympics (02/12 - 02/28)
June & November: NaNoMangO (Held twice a year) - Do 30 comic pages in 30 days

And here's a couple that last more than a month, but sound like fun:
January 1 - December 31: Project 365 - Take a picture a day every day for a year.
July - October: 50/90 or 50 Songs In 90 Days - Write 50 songs in 90 days

November 21, 2009 - Past 10,000 Words! Post a Comment
Mood: determined.gif Determined
NaNo Word Count: 10,037

I'm finally past the next milestone, 10,000 posts! I haven't written much in the past couple days, so I'm way behind on my word count goal I set for myself, as you can see on my NaNoWriMo page. Today, I should be crossing 20,000 posts instead of 10,000, but I'm not deterred. I've been doing word sprints on twitter, and it's helped a lot. I'm determined to cross the 50,000 mark by November 30th!

November 20, 2009 - 11th Annual Transgender Day of Remembrance Post a Comment
Mood: sad.gif Mournful
NaNo Word Count: 9,533

The Transgender Day of Remembrance is a day that remembers the transgender people (as well as non-transgender who were killed in transgender hate crimes) who were killed because of ignorance, hate, and prejudice.

Way too many transgender people die every year, and sadly the Transgender Day of Remembrance is rarely covered by any media outlets. More areas hold remembrances each year though, so hopefully in time the number of hate crimes will decrease drastically.

November 17, 2009 - Past 5,000 Words! Post a Comment!
Mood: mrgreen.gif Excited!
NaNo Word Count: 5,053

I still haven't made it to the NaNoWriMo word count goal I made for myself on Sunday, but I did reach an important milestone: 5,000 words! The other good news is I've done the set up part of the book, so now I'm at the exciting part. Now the words should flow more quickly. Tomorrow I should hopefully get past Sunday's goal, since in order to finish in time I need to write 3,750 words per day. I'm sure I'll make it, since I want to see how the book ends. ^_^

November 15, 2009 - Comments! Post a Comment!
Mood: smiley.gif happy
NaNo Word Count: 3,482

I decided to make this a little bit more like a blog. You can see the little mood on top, I've always liked those on blogs. ^_^

I also put my current NaNoWriMo word count up there, mostly to give me a visual boost (as you can see I didn't make my goal yesterday, but I was quite sick that day and was happy that I got some writing in at all, so I'm happy with my word count right now).

Most importantly, comments! That's the one thing I miss about real blogs. I never got a lot of comments on any of my blogs, but I was happy to read through them when I got them. Now I finally figured out a way that I can get comments on this wiki. So, I'm happy!

[
]<font size="1"><b>Mood:</b> happy<br><b>NaNo Wordcount:</b> 3,362</font>[
]

November 14, 2009 - Goal for today: Get to 7,500 words total
Yay for NaNoWriMo! I'm writing more on my novel than I ever had before (I started two novels in the past and only got to two paragraphs before on each before giving up on them). But, I need to catch up. Right now I'm at 2,361 and the goal for today is 23,333 words! Yipes! There's a Write-In at Panera Bread today, so I'm making my goal for the end of the day to be up to 7,500 words. Wish me luck! :D

November 13, 2009 - More contests like NaNoWriMo
I'm having so much fun doing NaNoWriMo, I thought I'd list some other contests like this that I'd love to try so I can get some more of my life list done. smiley.gif

February: February Album Writing Month - Write 14 songs in 28 days
April: Script Frenzy - Write a 100 page script (movies, TV, plays, shorts, or graphic novels) in 30 days

November 12, 2009 - I'm Doing NaNoWriMo
I just found out about the National Novel Writing Month. It's a yearly challenge to get a 50,000 word novel done in the 30 days of the month of November. I just found out about it yesterday, and started writing my novel today. But I'm determined to make it! There's also a NaNoWriMo group right in my area, so I'll be able to go to write-ins and get encouragement from other writers, so that should be the incentive I need to keep writing! It will be great to get one more thing checked off of my Things To Do Before I Die list smiley.gif

October 31, 2009 - A Halloween Greeting 2009
Here's my next original animation. It's a Halloween greeting starring everyone who lives at this house! smiley.gif

October 28, 2009 - A Telltale Halloween
Here's my [] animation. It's an entry into the Telltale Games Halloween contest. It's pretty heavy on injokes, so knowing the characters is pretty much a requirement. smiley.gif

September 22, 2009 - Interactive Poem
I love what people come up with as flash games. Some of them are really innovative. Today I Die is one of the most original game ideas I've ever seen. It's an interactive poem. It starts out sad, and you interact with the girl and her surroundings, replacing words in the poem until you reach the positive poem ending. There are actually two possible endings to the poem, both of them with an uplifting message. I'd love to see more video games expressed as art like this one. The concept was really beautiful.

September 12, 2009 - Episodic Adventure Game Concept Art
I'm working on an episodic adventure game. Right now, I'm in the concept stages. I'm working on some preliminary art to try to get an idea of what the look of the game will be. I made a mock-up in MS-Paint, which is what I usually use for my computer art, but I'm planning on doing the art for this game by hand. But here's a taste of what I have in mind:

September 8, 2009 - Teen Agent is completable in ScummVM
Another freebie can be completed in ScummVM now. Good Old Games has Teen Agent legally for download for free. With the latest development build from the ScummVM buildbot Teen Agent can be completed now! smiley.gif

August 1, 2009 - Ukranian Festival
We went to the Ukranian Festival because my mom wanted me to try some real pierogies. We didn't get there in time to eat any pierogies since they were all sold out, but I did get to try a real potato latke (potato pancake). I had them once from a store mix I bought at Wegmans in the international food isle (my favorite isle!) that I fried up myself. The store mix was close, but the real thing was better. I'm surprised the store mix was close though! So yay to them! I'll have to remember that brand. :)

July 15, 2009 - My Short Cartoon is Finally Up
Well, I didn't get my short cartoon up on YouTube on my goal date I set for myself, but it is up now, right here! smiley.gif

June 3, 2009 - Lots of Stuff
I plan to cover a lot in today's blog post. First of all, my computer is broken. :( So, now I have to go to the library to get online. Not a big deal to me actually, as now I can concentrate more on real life forms of entertainment. smiley.gif

The only thing that kind of makes me wish I still had a computer is that LucasArts has actually licensed Monkey Island to Telltale! I never thought it would happen, but Tales of Monkey Island, the fifth Monkey Island game is actually coming out, and it's coming out this July!

But, on to the real life entertainment I spoke about. My mom and I played a game of chess on a giant chess board at our local library. I haven't played chess in a long time, but this was the best game of chess I've ever played. :) The fact that it was a neat, giant one-of-a-kind chess board made it that much more special. I'll post up some pictures of the chess board once I get a chance. smiley.gif

May 23, 2009 - Beef & Lamb Gyro
There was a little hot dog and hamburger place in the mall that I loved, but it's closed now. My mom and I went to the mall today to eat in the food court, and I was happy to see that a similar shop had opened up in the same location.

I was looking through the menu, at the hot dogs and steak sandwiches, when I came upon the gyros section. I had never eaten a gyro, but I had heard good things about them. I tried lamb at the fantastic Blue Dolphin Greek restaurant once, and did not like it very much.

But, I had read several articles on gyros that said that lamb was the way to go, so I decided I'd be brave and try the beef and lamb gyro.

I'm really glad I did. :) The lamb still had a hit of it's odd taste (I call it the "lamb" taste, since there's really no way to describe it - it's not sweet, it's not salty, it's not tangy, sour or bitter. I'm positive lamb has it's own taste bud section on the tongue. :D), but the gyro sauce, and toppings of cucumbers, sour cream, and tomatoes actually complimented the flavor. It was really good. smiley.gif

April 29, 2009 - Birthday Present Cake
I kind of forgot about this site of mine for a little bit. :B

I made my sister and her boyfriend a cake shaped like a birthday present for their Easter birthday celebration. So I have accomplished the first step towards my goal of making creative, beautiful cakes. smiley.gif

March 25, 2009 - I Won Wallace & Gromit Grand Adventures!
I won the entire season of Telltale's newest episodic video game series, Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures from a contest at Gaming Podcast! As I've mentioned in my computer section, I'm a huge fan of both animation and adventure games. So, this new series is a dream come true for me!

And it's rather fitting that I won the contest where I had to talk about my favorite cheese, considering that cheese is the one thing that Wallace and I do share a love for. I do love a cracking good cheese. smiley.gif

March 10, 2009 - My first animated short will go up on YouTube today
I need a bit of a push, so I'm setting a deadline for my first animated short. It is now 1:35AM, so by 11:59PM today, the video will be up on my YouTube channel.

February 23, 2009 - Cooperative Gameplay by Yourself!
I'm a year late to the party, but I have to point out Cursor*10 anyway!

It's a very unique puzzle game where you control a cursor with the objective being to make it up to the 16th floor before the timer runs out. You have to get up with the help of the button presses of other cursors, but the thing that sets this flash game apart from any other flash game I've played is that the other cursors are ghosts of yourself. So, these other cursors perform the exact same moves that you had just done previously.

It takes a while to figure out what to do, but it's a lot of fun once you get the hang of it. smiley.gif

February 22, 2009 - Learning Fancy Cake Making
I made a cake for my mom's birthday the day before her birthday, and she and I ate it all in one day. So, I told my mom I'd make a cake on her birthday too so that she could have more cake, and also so that my sister and her boyfriend could have some too.

My mom brought out three pans for the cake. Two of them were small round pans for a multilayer cake, and the other one was for a small cake as she filled the pans with just a small amount so there would be leftover mix.

I had never known how to make a multilayer cake before, so I was really interested in learning how to do it. I was surprised at how simple it was. Just bake the two small pans, take the cakes out of the pans, frost one cake, put the other on top, and then frost the whole thing.

The whole process reminded me of how a Boston Creme pie looks, so I think I'm going to try making one of those next with my newfound knowledge! smiley.gif

February 16, 2009 - ScummVM and FreeSCI merge!
FreeSCI is for Sierra's adventure games for King's Quest IV onward. Soon, they will be playable in ScummVM! I love ScummVM. I was always a LucasArts fangirl, and very rarely strayed from those games. But when ScummVM and Revolution made Beneath a Steel Sky freeware, I decided to check it out, and I loved it. I bought Revolution's other games, and loved them too! So now, I'm playing more games I missed out on when they came out, like Sierra's games. I played the original Space Quest games when I was a little girl on my dad's computer, and enjoyed the humor in them. I bought King's Quest VI and Space Quest V later on, and enjoyed them both but never completed them. Now, with ScummVM (and Back to the Roots where the Amiga versions of most Sierra games are available to download for free), I can enjoy even more adventures. smiley.gif

February 3, 2009 - SCUMM on Wii?
LucasArts is finally releasing their newest Indiana Jones action adventure game, The Staff of Kings. They have updated the product page with mention that Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis will be an unlockable.

They didn't mention if it will be the action game, or the adventure, or what platforms it will be unlockable on. But if this is the SCUMM game, my opinion of the company will be slightly better. My appreciation of LucasArts won't be up to the level it was before the 2002 E3, but it's a start.
